Mtb Morocco : what our clients are saying ?
In the north-east of Africa, in the middle of the Atlas Mountains, with the MTB in Morocco rolling over trails and passes, the local Berbers living on the side of the road, a great group of 16 people amazed and sweated a lot about this great diversity of landscapes, people , Encounters, experiences and events in distant Morocco. This elicited a little cheer even from them.
Without much preparation, we confidently passed into the hands of our guide to plunge into an organized MTB trip in Morocco. A little confused and yet pleased we found ourselves in the first accommodation at 3:30 in the morning.
This was preceded by the late arrival of the plane in Marrakech after midnight, a surprising welcome meal by the guides on the outskirts of the city and the subsequent taxi ride to the Atlas Mountains, arrival AMIZMIZ 3:00 in the early morning.
All the more spectacular is the morning awakening in the Moroccan country, 20 degrees warm sun in November, the first encounter with the Moroccan breakfast, consisting of fragrant mint tea, warm flatbread, spices and cheese spread, which we hope will accompany us for the next few days.
The path starts from the bottom, so it was in the nature of the matter to tackle the first 20 km uphill in the first high valley with our borrowed MTB despite the starting height of 900m. Distracted by the many spectacular views of the lowlands, we enjoyed a midday meal already prepared by our Moroccan guides in the late afternoon.
In the last part of the day in particular, fantastic play of colors was created by the ever sinking sun, which made the supposedly brown landscape glow glowingly red, yellow and orange.
We can smell how wonderful the selected accommodations would end the day on the first evening. Cooked by the cook, we also got to know the delicious dishes, braised extremely tasty in the tajine pots.
The second day was marked by the MTB crossing 4 smaller passes and many trail passages from TINIRTE to AGHBALOU. We quickly realized that the initially ridiculed 40 kilometers per day was going to be hard work and would take the whole day. Actually, this knowledge applied to mountain biking in Morocco every day.
The third day started with waking up in the morning under the open sky on the roof terrace of our accommodation, awakened by the muezzin. The day was shaped by
Infinitely long trails across the landscape, even carrying sections were not neglected, rewarded by great insights and views of the different colored rocks at the foot of the Atlas Mountains.
At the latest here it became clear that the Atlas Mountains required stamina and skill with the MTB in Morocco, because the downhills were a grandiose challenge and an adventurous experience in places.
After the modest overnight stay on the previous day, it was the luxury accommodation with the greenest gardens and deep blue swimming pool that shaped the varied journey with many surprises.
Day 4 should bring us over the first 2000m high pass within reach of TOUBKAL, the highest mountain in the Atlas Mountains with 4167m. The journey there was characterized by exciting streets and small villages. As a conclusion and adventure of my own, the trip with the Moroccan taxi through narrow mountain roads and mountain villages such as IMLIL to our accommodation in the 1900m high village of AROUMD, the tourist center directly at the foot of TOUBKAL and at the same time the home of our guide and his relatives. So it was a matter of course, in the late evening in an original Hamam bath to let the muscles relax.
A spectacular descent directly from the accommodation, the ascent to the highest pass at 2355m and a never ending MTB trail descent along the river made us arrive in the city of ASNI on the fifth day. ,
The city of ASNI is characterized by the local market. Many farmers from the area come towards the slopes, so on the sixth and last day of travel the climb to the final plateau was a journey into the past of trading. Landscapes and wide views towards the past 6 days filled one or the other with astonishment at mountain biking in Morocco and what happened, experienced and seen. The beautiful landscapes and mountains were an experience of the miracle. Now we started our trip back to Marrakech.
After the calm and peacefulness of the people and the lonely landscapes of the past few days, it was exciting to see how life in Marrakech countered. Spices, fragrances, teas and all kinds of accessories seduced the senses. So our accommodation turned out to be an oasis of calm.
